ArtPrize

Sorry I missed one of my cool pictures. Here it is.

ArtPrize

Last night I went to the GRAM and listened to Ran Ortner speak and what a delight that was! He is a very interesting man, a captivating speaker and totally engaging! For those of you who are not familiar with this name, he took first place in ArtPrize. He shared how his mother played a part in his interest and ability of art, which provoked someone in the audience to ask if his mother was able to learn of his accomplishment with this event. He smiled and slowly said, "Y-e-s. But... my mother married someone six years younger than me!" Of course we all responded with a health laugh and then he said, "She is a VERY busy lady." He was also asked what his real name is. It is Randall but he much prefers Ran and so that is what "Ran" is all about. He was asked how he decided when he was truly done with this piece, not needing another brush stroke. He put his hands in the air and simply said, "The dead line was here!"
Here are some pictures and for all of you who did not get to ArtPrize. I hope this gives you just a minute glimpse at the winning piece, "Open Water no. 24." Ran receive a medallion and $250.000. The painting was then purchased by Dick and Betsy DeVos who have allowed it to be on display at GRAM through January.
